Selective schools across the nation rely on a high standard of education and learning capacity of students who apply and succeed through the trialling process. The entry exam for Selective High School Placement consists of one 20 minute writing test and three 40 minute multiple choice tests in reading, mathematics and general ability. K12 Academy student, Sophia (insert last name) aged 12, successfully conquered this examination process and acquired a spot at (insert selective school name) with a score of (insert test score).
Sophia was a naturally high achieving student. However, her mild ADHD was in the habit of taking over her focus. Often, Sophia would struggle to keep to set timed guidelines when completing her work and would struggle to remain focussed on the topic at hand. Through her guidance from K12, Sophia was able to work on these issues as K12 tailored each class to her interests and needs. Sophia initially struggled with her spelling and writing but has now come a long way to be able to write creative narratives that engage her attention and ability, and to be able to spell many words that are above her age level. Sophia worked best when there was structure and methodical processes to her learning. The consistency of lessons from K12 assisted in Sophia’s ability to increase her focus and learning capacity. Sophia was already quite well versed in her general ability areas, but required assistance in her literacy and mathematics. K12 staff were more than happy to help her in her areas of difficulty and push her towards achieving her goal of entering a selective high school.
Often, young students who wish to be a part of selective schools feel an immense pressure placed upon them. At K12 Academy, we have provided a learning environment that not only aids in the preparation of the tests, trials and tribulations that many students face in their academic career, but we also aim to emphasise each individual student’s confidence and sense of readiness when it comes to large scale life goals. K12 Academy believes in the opportunities for students of all learning levels. Sophia is a particularly gifted student and we pride our institution for being one that caters to gifted children and their interests. For instance, K12 created a science program that was specifically tailored to Sophia and her own scientific interests. K12 has the capacity to accommodate any students interests while still adhering to the curriculum’s requirements.
K12 Academy provides an environment that is tailored to suit the needs of each individual student at every learning level. At K12, Sophia participates in tuition classes for Mathematics, Science and English, which have helped her to become more competent and knowledgeable in all areas. K12 Academy has helped Sophia to emphasise her strengths and develop key strategies and approaches to tackling her weaknesses. Months of preparation and study with the K12 staff has been a positively influential aspect of her learning, aiding in the growth and acceleration in areas she is both heavily interested in and slightly less interested in. Not only are Sophia’s parents proud, but we, the staff at K12, could not be any prouder of one of our promising little prodigies. Student growth and development are some of our top priorities here at K12, and to have one of our very own students become so successful in their academic journey brings a tear to our eyes.
